So what is Enduro anyways?
An Enduro mountain bike event is where you ride both the ups and the downs, but you are only timed on the downs (your total time across all the downhill stages is what your final place is based on). The best part about this is that you can climb up with your mates and not be in a big rush, which leaves time for good chats and yummy snacks!
You wear a timing chip the entire way, and there’s a timer at the start and end of each timed stage that goes off automatically. We will do 30 second to one-minute gaps between riders – or more if you want – so that ideally no one needs to pass anyone.
There is an overall time limit to complete the entire event – you just need to make sure you do all the timed stages within the time limit – in this case it’s 3 hours.
If you finish early, you can go back and do some of the timed stages again.
What are the timed stages?
There will be different ones for the different levels, and we'll provide a map with the stages marked on it. See below for details:
Beginner: Lazy Fern x2 and Magic Carpet
Intermediate: SWIGG, North Face and Peak Flow
Hard: Ridgeline, Ridgeline Extension, Lower Leaping Lizard and Live Wires Hardline
Do I have to do them in a specific order?
Nope! You can do them in whatever order you like, though you might change your mind on the day if you think a line to start is too long. You can also pre-plan from now onwards, as you have all the course details this far out!
And it’s not all about the racing!
The event village is part of the fun and a place to catch up with friends, supporters and other riders before and after your runs.
The Baking Competition
Yep, there’s a baking competition! Bring along your finest creation and put your baking skills to the test. And even if baking isn’t your thing, somebody has to help eat it... Bring along your gold coin.
Sausage sizzle
All that riding calls for a decent feed! We’ll have the BBQ fired up in the event village, with sausages, including vegetarian options, available to buy. Riders, supporters and hungry bystanders all welcome!
Costume Competition
There’s also a costume competition, so feel free to add a little creativity to your riding kit. Completely optional, of course, but we love seeing what people come up with.
Clothing Exchange
Bring along cycling clothing you no longer use and see whether you can give it a new home or find something new-to-you.
Mechanical Support
Dirt Merchants will be on hand providing mechanical support, helping keep bikes and riders rolling.
Bring your supporters
Friends and whānau are welcome too. We encourage them to come along, hang out in the event village and cheer riders on. We would ask that supporters don’t ride the trails.
