Women of Dirt 2021 is open for registrations!
The six-hour event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, is a fun, social women-only event that combines love of bikes, baking and being best dressed! Whether you're joining for the win, or just keen to participate, this event caters for everyone.
While we have had a great time running Women of Dirt at Belmont for the past few years, and a massive thanks to BAMBA for hosting us, we thought we should change it up and give Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park a go again! The vibe is the same - baking, costumes, coffees and a sausage sizzle of course - but there will be two riding options. All racers will head up Koru and then Snake Charmer to the entrance of Big Tom's Wheelie and Starfish. From there, racers can choose to ride Big Tom's Wheelie and Swigg OR Starfish! Let the team making begin!
There are two categories: Dirt Divas ride solo and Dirty Girls ride as a team relay. Teams can consist of 2, 3 or 4 people and team members can do as few or as many laps as they like. The timing chip is passed from rider to rider as they swap while the rest of the team cheers, mingles and enjoys the Women of Dirt base camp.
As always, the event will include a baking competition, so put your best baking forward and enjoy trying everyone else's for a gold coin donation - all proceeds go to the trails!
There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in the solo and team categories. There is also an award for 'Best Dressed', so make sure to wear your team colours/costumes.
Registration is now open, so start planning your costumes, and putting together your team, for Wellington's only women-only relay event! Check the weekly Revolver or the events calendar for pre-race practice rides. Keep an eye on the Facebook event page for updates.
Our sponsors help us run the event on the day and provide lots of goodies and prizes for the riders and volunteers - we could not do it without them!
If the event needs to be postponed due to severe weather, the event will take place on Saturday 27 November. Teams may transfer their entry to another team; however refunds cannot be provided as we need to cover the costs of the event whether it proceeds or not.
Pending Covid-19 Alert Levels, this event may be considerably altered, postponed, or cancelled. The event can take place at Alert Level 2; however, numbers will be limited and spectators will also be limited. If postponed, teams may transfer their entry to another team; however refunds cannot be provided as we need to cover the costs of the event. If cancelled, we will refund teams as much as possible depending on how close it is to race day. Thanks for your understanding.
